More on AMC and a special lady
I promised to give you some information on the American Cancer Society. Did you know they have things like, the cancer survivors network, reach to recovery, hope lodge, I can cope, man to man, youth camps, and college Scholarships?
The cancer survivors network is an e-community was created by and for cancer survivors and caregivers to be a place to connect with others who share similar experiences.
Reach to Recovery has trained volunteer breast cancer survivors who provide support in a one-on-one visitation for those diagnosed with breast cancer.
Road to Recovery is volunteer drivers who provide patients with rides to and from treatments.
Hope Lodge is a temporary home-away from home providing lodging and a supportive environment for cancer patients undergoing outpatient treatments.
I can cope is a series of educational classes designed for those touched by cancer.
Man to man is a program where prostate cancer survivors provide one-on-one/or group support for prostate cancer patients.
youth camps for for children ages 4-15 who have or have cancer. It offers recreation and companionship. There is a young adult retreat for ages16-20.
College scholarships are exclusively for students with a history of cancer. Indiana and Michigan residents who are U.S.citizens and have had a diagnosis before age 21 are eligible to apply.
The ACM can help you with financial and insurance questions, prescription questions, or even finding lodging and transportation.
I must admit I did not know all this. If any of you or if you know someone who needs help you can call 1-800-227-2345 or go to www.cancer.org.
I went to church yesterday and there is a lady there who is also facing cancer although not breast. Bless her heart she has had an infection and they can’t seem to find out why. She is now going to go to a specialist in infections. That is the only thing that is holding up her chemo. We have talked before and this week when I seen her she had gotten her hair cut real short. She said that she thought I had a good idea that it might be easier take losing it if it was short to begin with. I made her one of my chemo caps and she was tickled. When we start our chem we will wear our caps to church proudly… LOL
Ya’ll have a great night and stay healthy, Linda
